Home Tutor Training Course

The Home Tutor Scheme matches trained volunteers with migrants and refugees who want to learn English but are unable to attend classes. All Home Tutors undertake an English as a Second Language (ESL) training course especially designed for tutors.

The 15 hour course will give you the knowledge and skills required to work effectively with adult students in ESL programs.

It provides you with information about

  • Migration and Cross Cultural Communication
  • Adult Learning
  • Working with Beginner, Elementary and Intermediate levels
  • Pronunciation, speaking and listening
  • Reading and Writing
  • Settlement issues

How will the Home Tutor Scheme Training Course help you?

You will learn new skills, meet new people, and have the opportunity to help others. As a tutor with the Home Tutor Scheme you can use the Adelaide City Campus Library– the largest English language library in South Australia.

Who can join the Home Tutor Scheme Training Course?

Anyone with a good level of English, good pronunciation and a few hours to give each week can apply for Home Tutor training.

A minimum commitment of 6 months voluntary tutoring is required. Tutoring takes place for two hours once a week in the migrant or refugees home.

What does it cost to study the Home Tutor Scheme Training Course?

Training is free! A Criminal History Check - Child Related will be required.
